"A Circle Outside" & a Hometown Connection

Last year a fellow publicist recommended me to UK-based Eye Books which was looking for a publicist to manage United States PR for a book. It turned out the the book was set in my hometown of Santa Cruz, California, and the author, Linda Rosewood, was close to one of my friends from high school. The coincidence was too good, and I jumped to work on it.

A Circle Outside is a subversive comedy set in the redwoods above Santa Cruz. It draws on the ideas of feminist utopias, modern witchcraft, the alchemy of sex and psychedelics, and the dynamics of communal living, all with a humorous vibe as eight lesbians try to create a feminist utopia in a rundown farmhouse with big goals and no indoor bathroom.

The Bay Area Reporter says this "Sapphic Santa Cruz story satisfies." Moreover, for someone like me who spent a large portion of my life there, it was a treat to experience the story set in the familiar surroundings during the time when I was in elementary school.

While Linda now lives in Ireland, she planned to return to the Bay area to promote the book with events, so our plan was focused on booking San Francisco Bay Area events, local publicity, and outreach to LGBT+ media. In addition to the review in BAR, Linda was interviewed by The Santa Cruz Sentinel, Good Times, Pride Perspectives on KSQD radio and Vallejo Times-Herald to support her events in Santa Cruz, Felton, Berkeley, and Vallejo.

If you'd like to read A Circle Outside, it's available as a paper back and ebook. Ask your local bookseller to order it.
